My dirty little secret is that I use a not so friendly odor eliminator because I have a dog, a husband, and the homemade versions don’t work as well for me. This one actually works and does not have the too sweet fake floral of my not so friendly odor eliminator. *Love*

The coolest part of this line...is the fact that the products are concentrated formulas that you mix with water yourself. It may seem odd to buy an empty plastic bottle (it comes with a 1 oz packet of concentrate), but concentrated formulas = less shipping weight = lower carbon footprint...The line is totally affordable too....I'd much rather have natural enzymes eating away my stains than caustic chemicals - wouldn't you?

I used the stain and odor remover on two upholstered chairs that my dog sleeps on a lot. In one treatment they look noticeably brighter and smell fresher. Very easy to spray on, wait, and wipe off. I noticed dirt coming right off on to the rag and it was gentle on the upholstery too.

As a Realtor I can say the Stain and Odor Enzyme cleaner does a great job for pet odors, which is often a problem with listings.

Hollis B, Customer

I have used more of this bottle than any other, and I'll tell you why. We have two dogs and although we bathe them and keep them pretty clean, they are still dogs and well, there's a dog smell. Not only does this leave a nice fresh smell, but it's also great for stains. Oh my gosh, I was so skeptical, but there were a few spots on our carpet that needed attention. We followed the directions perfectly and the stains disappeared. It won't be long before I need more of this one!

Very impressed in the way this product works. It completely removed stains and spots form my daughter's carpet. We had tried commercial cleaners with no success but the Green Irene stain remover did what the others could not.

  • How do I mix the cleaner?

Just one refill packet will make 16 oz of cleaner, so just cut open the packet along the recommended line and combine the entire 1 oz concentrate with 15 oz of tap water in the reusable sprayer bottle.

Tip to avoid foaming: When mixing the concentrate from the packets into the 16 oz spray bottle, put the water in first… leaving room for 1 oz concentrate. This will avoid the foam generated by adding water after the concentrate. If there is concern that you will fill too much water, simply fill three quarters water, then add concentrate, then top off. Either way avoids the foaming you get when you add water ON TOP of concentrate.

  • Can you add the Green Irene Stain & Odor Eliminator to a rug shampoo to make it more effective?

Most reputable rug shampoo providers already incorporate enzymes into their product. Our Stain & Odor Eliminator is a unique blend of enzymes and is more concentrated than rug shampoos. In summary, it would make sense to spray heavily soiled and spotted areas first with our Stain & Odor product, before shampooing, but would not make sense to add to the rug cleaning machine.

  • Will the Stain and Odor Eliminator get rid of rust stains on my carpet?

This is one of my favorites! We all know it's nearly impossible to remove rust from carpet. Try soaking it overnight with our Stain and Odor Eliminator - it works even on old rust stains that have already been professionally cleaned. It may take two or three applications for the rust stain to completely disappear. Since rust isn't an organic material, it's a mineral, iron oxide, how do the enzymes remove the stain? The microbiologist explained that rust, as with most stains, are held in place by organic material - natural glue. Therefore when the enzyme reaction removes the organic material, the iron oxide is simply swept away. The mystery is solved and what seem impossible can actually be successfully achieved.

  • Will the Stain and Odor Eliminator eliminate that awful lingering smell from my daughter’s soccer cleats?

You bet. Just spray the inside of those cleats (or sneakers, boots or skates) and set aside for about 5 minutes. You'll smell the difference for sure.

  • Will the Stain and Odor Eliminator remove cat/dog urine from my carpet?

The stain and odor eliminator is definitely the product to use to clean any kind of messes/stains on carpeting, upholstered furniture, curtains etc. It is formulated for that. My recommendation would be to let it soak a while and if needed, re-apply. It'll clean up the stain and not just mask the odor, it will eliminate the odor.

  • Will the Stain and Odor Eliminator remove urine from a mattress?

Yes, it will eliminate urine stains and odors (on fabrics like carpets).  In general, it is good on surface spots and odor, but of course when dealing with a mattress, there will be urine that has been absorbed down into the mattress which will be tough to get rid of no matter what you do. So the issue with mattresses is getting the cleaner to soak in as far as the urine. However, the real answer is there's no reason why a large quantity can't be poured directly on the stain and just let it soak. It may leave a "ring" on the mattress, but it will take care of the odor problem.

  • Can the Stain and Odor Eliminator be used to spray on clothes and used in the laundry machine?

It was not designed as a pre-wash (although we are looking at adding an enzyme-based pre-treat down the road), but since it does work to eliminate stains on fabrics, it would be safe to use as a spot-cleaner before putting an item into the washing machine. They key would be to provide friction – ie, the Stain and Odor Eliminator needs to be rubbed in, not simply sprayed on. By way of illustration, I used it the other day to get rid of a chocolate milk spill on my daughter’s white school blouse by spraying it, rubbing it to see the stain disappear, and then throwing it into the machine. Since enzymes are not corrosive and the cleaner is free of any harsh chemicals, it’s safe to use on clothing fabrics in a pinch.

  • Can you please advise me how to clean vomit out of berber carpet? My dog was sick on the carpet and it was not discovered for a while. I attempted to clean it with a formula designed for a carpet cleaning machine and now that it is dry it smells even worse!

Try the Green Irene Stain and Odor Eliminator. Follow the instructions on the label, allowing it to soak into the carpet. The key is to apply some friction, rubbing it with a clean towel. You may want to allow it to soak in overnight or simply repeat. The enzyme reaction breaks up the organic materials and eliminates the underlying odors itself. It doesn't leave behind a fake sweet smell.

  • We have proteinaceous crud in our silk rug from a rawhide bone chewed up by our dog. Is this product safe and useful for this? How about taking chocolate out of a silk rug?

Green Irene Stain and Odor Eliminator is designed to break down stains in carpeting, drapes and upholstery. Enzymes work by breaking down the organic materials in stains so it's a great match for proteinaceous crud and even chocolate too! Our enzyme-based Stain and Odor Eliminator is non-corrosive so it does work gently unlike bleach or heavy duty cleaners; the issue, however is to make sure that the silk rug isn't damaged by "liquid". For example, that is why some silk clothing has to be dry cleaned, and not washed in the machine.  You must first test your silk carpet in an inconspicuous place for color fastness - water can cause some colors or fabrics to run even so you need to check for that before you work on the stains.
